Farmers’ footsteps makes a great activity to enhance pupils’ learning about the impact of climate change.
Pupils are introduced to six farmers who live and work in the mountainous regions of Western Nepal. Each of the farmers has a different story to tell, but they all have a lot in common, they share the struggle to produce enough food to feed their families and to sell at market in a region affected by climate change.
Taking on the role of the farmers, the pupils play a board game where they make their way down the treacherous mountain path to market. But who knows what might happen on the way? However the dice rolls there’s a lot of steep learning along the path!
The game also helps pupils understand and engage with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The materials below include the Farmers’ footstep board game, pupil activity sheets, and a PowerPoint with notes.
