Our approach

Innovate

Identifying and testing, locally driven solutions that fit the local context

Demonstrate

Building and sharing strong evidence of what works and what we learn

Transform

Creating lasting change by addressing the root causes of the problem

We start where poverty, climate risk and exclusion intersect. Working alongside communities, we focus on what holds people back and what practical change would make the greatest difference in everyday life.

Priorities are shaped by local and Indigenous knowledge, climate science, and the perspectives of different groups in the places we work.

From there, we develop programmes that move between innovation, demonstration and transformation.

We work with local partners to test and refine new ideas, then demonstrate what works with clear
evidence, and help shift the wider conditions that limit progress and prevent good solutions being
adopted at scale.

As solutions prove effective, we help build a credible body of evidence by applying them at wider scale and in different contexts. This strengthens confidence among communities, partners and decision-makers, and shows that change is practical, affordable and sustainable.

To achieve lasting impact, we work to embed successful approaches into the systems that shape
people’s lives. We partner with businesses, governments and institutions so learning influences policy, practice, finance and investment, rather than remaining within individual projects.

We pay close attention to outcomes across climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, gender equality and systems change. These outcomes are interconnected and reinforce each other.

By combining strong partnerships, the innovate–demonstrate–transform approach and a clear focus on who benefits, we contribute to changes that last well beyond any single project.
