Rwanda faces the challenge of turning rapid growth into more inclusive and climate-resilient economic opportunity.
Over recent decades, Rwanda has seen rapid change and significant progress in expanding services such as energy access. But with a young and growing population, demand for jobs, services and economic opportunities is rising, while climate change is putting increasing pressure on agriculture and rural livelihoods.
The challenge now is ensuring that this progress translates into better livelihoods and stronger local economies that can withstand climate change. For many smallholder farmers, entrepreneurs and underserved communities, limited access to productive technologies, affordable finance, skills and markets limits their ability to grow businesses, increase incomes and build resilience.
Practical Action in Rwanda works across these interconnected challenges. We combine sustainable agriculture and clean energy with enterprise development and improved market access. Building on our extensive experience working with refugee and host communities, we are adapting what works to reach more people in underserved rural and peri-urban communities across Rwanda.
