Reflections from COP30

“When global leadership fails, local leadership becomes even more essential”

By Practical Action - 18.11.2025 COPNews

Despite continued blocks to help address the climate crisis, the COP30 climate talks are providing an opportunity for people with solutions to gather and scale up change for good.

Practical Action CEO Sarah Roberts is feeling both frustrated and optimistic after more than a week at the UN climate talks in Belém, Brazil.

In this video, Sarah describes the frustration of seeing global leaders continue to fail to reach agreement on phasing out fossil fuels or delivering money to those who are hit hardest by the climate crisis.

But she also underlines this COP has felt different, with local leadership visibly pushing a movement for change, supported by Practical Action and other organisations.

Watch the video to hear how Indigenous and local leaders are taking action, how renewable energy is powering sustainable livelihoods, how regenerative agriculture is building thriving local economies and how climate resilience is creating sustainable futures.
