Practical Action’s leadership team have reacted with dismay to the announcement that vital climate talks will not go ahead this year.

Kenya has suffered widespread flooding in recent weeks, with 267 people killed and 300,000 displaced, according to the Kenyan National Disaster Operations Centre. Although many people are still missing, all Practical Action staff are safe and accounted for.

Practical Action staff and villagers in Darfur have come together to complete the construction of a dam, despite ongoing fighting in the region. The dam will enable thousands of people to enjoy better harvests and more nutritional food by capturing water that would normally run off the land and evaporate.

A promise to commit more than $2bn to reduce a health and environmental emergency caused by cooking over open fires has been welcomed by Practical Action’s CEO.

This global leaders’ Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa will be a turning point for progress on ensuring clean cooking access for all. As a key player in this field, Practical Action will be at the Summit, alongside our partners at the Global Partnership for Action.

One year has passed since the conflict in Sudan erupted in April 2023, leaving a trail of displacement and hunger. The international response has sadly been insufficient, leaving the Sudanese people to carry the burden largely on their own.

Practical Action has been awarded £500,000 in funding raised by players of  People’s Postcode Lottery, awarded by Postcode International Trust. The money will innovate real-world solutions to build sustainable lives and livelihoods for people living on the frontlines of poverty and climate change.

Plastic pollution is a major challenge for people and the planet. In Bangladesh, we’re working alongside Faridpur’s informal waste workers to add value to flimsy plastic waste. This previously worthless rubbish is now being collected from the streets and sold, instead of being left to pollute the environment.
