Strengthening heat governance in Khulna, Bangladesh

Abstract

A post-event study conducted by Practical Action in 2025 assessed the impacts of prolonged high temperatures during a 2024 heatwave in Khulna, Bangladesh, to understand how the extreme heat affected communities and disrupted water security, agriculture, health, and other sectors. This policy brief outlines the need to build resilience to heatwaves through integrated heat governance, climate-resilient infrastructure, strengthened public services, and coordinated and inclusive heat action plans to protect at-risk communities from escalating heat risks.
