Abstract
A heatwave in Bangladesh in 2024 significantly intensified pre-existing water insecurity in both urban and rural areas in Khulna. A post-event study conducted by Practical Action in 2025 assessed how the prolonged high temperatures transformed a chronic water problem into an acute crisis by reducing water availability, further degrading water quality, and increasing water demand for households, agriculture, and other sectors.
