A Systems Approach To Dairy Development

Abstract

There is a lot of talk about ‘systems thinking’ as a strategy to achieve sustainable food systems. The statement below is how Practical Action explains ‘systems thinking and taking a systems approach’. This learning brief aims to show how Practical Action has implemented a systems approach to dairy programming in Nepal and to demonstrate its value for other actors in the dairy production value chain. The objective is to mainstream a systems approach, including considering the enabling environment, for further impact in the future. This brief provides learning for development actors, whether private sector actors, donors, NGOs, or governments around issues of women’s empowerment, climate-smart agriculture, dairy cooperatives and the market systems, and renewable energy.
