Join us for an exciting event!
Africa has committed to eliminating open waste burning by 2040, and we need coordinated efforts from all stakeholders.
In this session, we will showcase the best practices of our partners in the Multi-Stakeholder Partnership launched at COP 27. This partnership brings together government, private sector, civil society, academia, financial institutions, and climate funders, with a strong focus on including vulnerable communities like the informal sector, youth, and women.
Open waste burning not only clogs our already overburdened infrastructure, leading to more frequent floods, but it also pollutes the air, soil, and water with toxic fumes, endangering the health, safety, and livelihoods of millions. By eliminating open waste burning, we have an opportunity to enhance circular economies, boost green economies, and build long-term resilience for vulnerable communities.
Featuring contributions from Practical Action’s Africa Director Akinyi Walender and H.E. Fitsum Assefa Adela, AMCEN (African Ministerial Conference on the Environment) President, Ethiopian State minister Planning and Development, this side event will foster dialogue between state and non-state actors, outlining the status of open waste burning and the actions needed to achieve our goals by 2040.
We also invite new partners to join the partnership and encourage existing partners to reinforce their commitment. Additionally, we will promote peer learning within waste and circular economy networks, showcasing emerging ideas, projects, and innovative solutions for eliminating open waste burning.
Finally, we will initiate a financial dialogue to identify investable projects that can help eliminate open waste burning in Africa.
Don’t miss this platform for dialogue, learning, and action towards a cleaner and greener future for Africa!
