Let’s build a climate resilient future, in a world that works better for everyone
Karuna is saving lives with early warning systems
In Nepal, Karuna leads a local Disaster Management Committee, protecting villages from floods. Advance weather forecasts link up to real-time river levels. “Once the water levels start rising, we send out updates to villagers living in the catchment areas” she told us.
Voice and text messages, and local weatherboards alert people to the danger. And we’ve worked with the community to put plans in place, so they can act fast to protect their lives, homes and the assets they rely on to make a living. These systems have already saved hundreds of lives.
Jawaher is harvesting food from the desert
In Sudan, we worked with Jawaher and her community to tackle prolonged droughts. They’re planting forests to stabilise the soil and hold back the desert. When it does rain, it pours, but rainwater harvesting captures the water. Coupled with new farming techniques, and crop diversification, yields are increasing.
Jawaher told us “We’re more connected and we make decisions together. I’ve been able to farm more land. The food I grow feeds me and my family, I can sell in the market, and have enough until the next season.”
Melanio is replanting forests for future generations
In Peru, we’ve supported Melanio to develop new ways to farm coffee in the changing climate, and reverse deforestation. He plants trees that provide shade for the coffee plants and regulate the weather. When their leaves fall, they enrich the soil. Nutrient rich soil and stable weather produce quality organic coffee that gets a better price at market.
Melanio told us: “Before, the people were cutting down trees. Without thinking about the future. With the reforestation for coffee, today we can see some very beautiful landscapes. We feel proud.”
Climate change won’t wait
We’ve arrived at a fork in the road and we need to join together to act, now.
Bikram Rana, who leads our flood resilience programme in Nepal, explains: “I have seen damaged infrastructure, strained water resources, food insecurity and biodiversity loss. If we don’t act, the situation will be disastrous.”
We have a choice. We can choose an approach that creates long-lasting positive impacts, enabling people to thrive despite the changing climate.
Bikram says: “Giving local communities a voice in the decisions that affect them, and introducing solutions that protect, restore, and sustainably manage nature, can reduce future climate impacts, support adaptation, and benefit people and planet.”
This is our chance to build a world that works better for everyone.
Be part of our plan for a better future, now.
We need more locally-led solutions and, as the impact of climate change reaches even more people, so must we. That’s why we’re seeking to raise a £1 million kick-starter fund to get us off to a flying start in 2022.
Our plan is to work with climate-affected communities to:
- Prepare for more extreme weather
- Adapt to the changing climate reality
- Reuse & Replenish our finite resources
Raising £1 million will set us up to achieve our ambitious targets of working to improve the lives of six million people directly by 2025, which will have a positive, knock-on effect for 20 million more.
We’re already making progress in the world’s toughest places
Sihle is a climate pioneer living in Zimbabwe. Droughts caused by climate change regularly killed Sihle’s crops, leaving her with little income. We worked with Sihle and her community so they could learn new farming skills and build solar powered irrigation systems to boost their profits and their incomes.
“I’m now able to grow my produce and sell it so I can get some income. I’ll also be able to send my children to school for education.”
Your gift today will enable more people like Sihle to build better, climate resilient futures, and pioneer solutions that benefit millions more.
“To talk of the future is only useful if it leads to action now”

Your donation today changes lives…
…with your support we can raise £1 million to kickstart our plans for 2022 – so our teams around the world can work with more people to build better, climate resilient futures.
And creates a ripple effect…
…as we work with local organisations and communities, they pass on their new skills and knowledge to others, building on their success.
Which multiplies your impact…
…because every £1 invested by forward thinking people like you helps us to develop solutions that work, and unlock on average another £2 in grants from foundations and other funders – so we can do even more.
And creates bigger change…
…your gift can help change the systems that drive the problems. When our solutions are picked up by governments or businesses, positive change can happen on a much bigger scale.
For every £1 we receive in donations, just 9 pence is spent on fundraising. The remaining 91% is spent on charitable activities, including 1% on essential governance.
(2018/19 audited accounts, produced to Charity Commission norms).
