Putting

Climate resilience into action

We work with communities to build resilience to climate hazards—saving lives, safeguarding livelihoods, and strengthening local capacity to respond and adapt.

Climate change is creating more floods, droughts, and storms that threaten lives and livelihoods everywhere, but especially for people living in poverty. Practical Action works with the communities most vulnerable to these devastating effects to put climate resilience into action, helping them prepare for hazards and recover quickly when disasters strike.

Building on decades of experience in climate risk reduction, we combine local knowledge with inclusive and sustainable solutions like early warning systems and nature-based approaches. By putting communities at the centre of decision-making, we make sure adaptation plans reflect real needs and strengthen local agency. As a result, people can protect what matters most and shape a safer, more secure future.

Our approach includes:

  • Early Warning Systems: Designing alerts that are timely, trusted, and easy to act on.
  • Nature-Based Solutions: Restoring ecosystems to reduce disaster risk and improve incomes.

We connect local innovation to national and global action, influencing policy and ensuring the most affected voices drive systemic change.

By combining science, technology, and innovation with local knowledge, our work and partnerships save lives, protect incomes, and give people the confidence to plan for tomorrow.
