Sustainable farming for livelihoods that last

Through regenerative agriculture, Farm to Market for Refugee Youth (F2MARY) is creating new opportunities for young people in Rwanda’s Mugombwa Refugee Camp and its surrounding communities in Gisagara District.

Focused on chilli and poultry farming – both high-demand value chains – the project aims to boost incomes, create jobs, and strengthen farmers’ resilience to climate change. This new approach will help both refugee and host community youth move from production to sustainable markets.

Farming that works

By providing training in improved farming techniques, solar-powered irrigation, and better market access, farmers can enhance their productivity, while also maintaining soil health to secure more reliable harvests.

Over the three years, the project will improve 30 hectares of farmland, enable 2,000 young people – with a strong emphasis on including women- to secure better jobs, and connect farmers with financial services and business support.

The project promotes inclusive value chains that help young people build skills, earn income, and strengthen their resilience – both to the effects of climate change on their land, and to an ever-changing market.

The work is designed to create decent jobs, better futures, and long-term positive impacts among communities where opportunities have often been limited.
