Practical Action is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) that uses technology to challenge poverty in developing countries.
We find out what people are doing and help them to do it better. Through technology we enable poor communities to build on their skills and knowledge to produce sustainable and practical solutions - transforming their lives forever and protecting the world around them.

In addition to these seven offices, Practical Action also has a Head Office in the UK, with responsibility for coordinating group finances, management, knowledge sharing, fundraising and marketing.
Strategic Leadership Team
Practical Action's senior management team, which has executive responsibilities, is called the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) and it comprises the Chief Executive and twelve Directors, including seven Country and Regional Directors.
Board of Trustees
Practical Action is governed by a Board of Trustees, who are also Directors of the Company, and responsible for the overall management and control of the Charity.
Practical Action was founded, in 1966, as the Intermediate Technology Development Group by radical economist EF Schumacher and a group of like-minded colleagues.
Practical Action is a registered UK charity, no 247257, and a company limited by guarantee and not having share capital (registration no 871954), under the direction of a Board of Trustees. The senior management team, which has executive responsibilities, is called the Strategy Leadership Team (SLT).
The charity has two wholly-owned trading subsidiaries - Practical Action Publishing Ltd and Practical Action Consulting Ltd - and two dormant subsidiaries. It is also associated with two locally-registered overseas entities carrying the Practical Action name.
Practical Action's annual report and accounts for the last financial year are available to download. They include a review of our international programmes against strategic objectives, the report of the independent auditors and a detailed financial statement.
