For poor farmers
Agriculture is the cornerstone of most developing countries' economies; approximately 2.5 billion people make their living from agricultural production and 1.5 billion of these are small-scale farmers, labourers, fisherfolk and pastoralists. With little income or natural resources their lives are precarious and vulnerable.
Practical Action's projects aim to increase income and access to food for the poor. With your support, we’re able to reach farmers like Edith in Malawi and to help them to have a more secure future. Edith was only able to irrigate a small part of her land to grow crops but thanks to the installation of solar powered pumps, she is now able to irrigate more of her land and increase her crops meaning that she can feed her family but also sell the excess to make an income.
