Let’s build a climate resilient future, in a world that works better for everyone
Mary is reusing waste to protect the forest
Mary is a climate pioneer in Kenya who has learned how to make organic fuel briquettes from waste products. She has used her knowledge, along with new business skills, to build a successful clean energy business. As well as selling briquettes, she sells low smoke cookstoves and solar lights.
Mary’s positive actions mean that fewer trees are cut down for fuel and less toxic smoke is released into the atmosphere. As well as protecting the environment, she’s also boosting the health of her community – less smoke means healthier lungs.
Jawaher is harvesting food from the desert
In Sudan, we worked with Jawaher and her community to tackle prolonged droughts. They’re planting forests to stabilise the soil and hold back the desert. When it does rain, it pours, but rainwater harvesting captures the water. Coupled with new farming techniques, and crop diversification, yields are increasing.
Jawaher told us “We’re more connected and we make decisions together. I’ve been able to farm more land. The food I grow feeds me and my family, I can sell in the market, and have enough until the next season.”
Melanio is replanting forests for future generations
In Peru, we’ve supported Melanio to develop new ways to farm coffee in the changing climate, and reverse deforestation. He plants trees that provide shade for the coffee plants and regulate the weather. When their leaves fall, they enrich the soil. Nutrient rich soil and stable weather produce quality organic coffee that gets a better price at market.
Melanio told us: “Before, the people were cutting down trees. Without thinking about the future. With the reforestation for coffee, today we can see some very beautiful landscapes. We feel proud.”
Climate change won’t wait
We’ve arrived at a fork in the road and we need to join together to act, now.
Bikram Rana, who leads our flood resilience programme in Nepal, explains: “I have seen damaged infrastructure, strained water resources, food insecurity and biodiversity loss. If we don’t act, the situation will be disastrous.”
We have a choice. We can choose an approach that creates long-lasting positive impacts, enabling people to thrive despite the changing climate.
Bikram says: “Giving local communities a voice in the decisions that affect them, and introducing solutions that protect, restore, and sustainably manage nature, can reduce future climate impacts, support adaptation, and benefit people and planet.”
This is our chance to build a world that works better for everyone.
“Talk of the future is only useful if it leads to action now”

Your donation today changes lives…
…with your support, our teams around the world can work with more people to build better, climate resilient futures.
And creates a ripple effect…
…as we work with local organisations and communities, they pass on their new skills and knowledge to others, building on their success.
Which multiplies your impact…
…because every £1 invested by forward thinking people like you helps us to develop solutions that work, and unlock on average another £2 in grants from foundations and other funders – so we can do even more.
And creates bigger change…
…your gift can help change the systems that drive the problems. When our solutions are picked up by governments or businesses, positive change can happen on a much bigger scale.
For every £1 we receive in donations, just 9 pence is spent on fundraising. The remaining 91% is spent on charitable activities, including 1% on essential governance.
