Support communities on the front-line of climate change
As droughts, wildfires and other extreme weather events increase across the world, your gift will harness generations of knowledge to support those affected. Your generosity will enable us to share proven solutions with others, so that they can build a better future.
“Thanks to this workshop I have seen that there are water backpacks, hoes, rakes, pillories… I’ve learned to use them in case of a fire.”
– Dalmiro, a volunteer firefighter confronting wildfires in Bolivia
Using local knowledge to tackle global problems
As droughts and wildfires increase in frequency across the world, it’s people in the poorest places places who suffer the most. In regions like Chiquitania in Bolivia, local communities find themselves up against multiple threats to their livelihoods as harvests become unreliable.
Practical Action is working hand-in-hand with communities in Latin America and beyond to harness the potential of local, indigenous knowledge. We believe that this combination of old and new holds robust solutions as we adapt to the realities of climate change.
Our partnerships with the police, military and fire brigade are also empowering local volunteers to fight back against wildfires.
