Put us on your list for tackling climate change
Genaro is replanting forests for future generations
In Peru, we’ve supported Genaro to develop new ways to farm coffee in the changing climate, and reverse deforestation. He plants trees that provide shade for the coffee plants and regulate the weather. When their leaves fall, they enrich the soil. Nutrient rich soil and stable weather produce quality organic coffee that gets a better price at market.
Genaro told us: “The change that has taken place in this community is in production and reforestation. We farmers have made this barren area in a forest, we have made it beautiful, and we are conserving it.”
Karuna is saving lives with early warning systems
In Nepal, Karuna leads a local Disaster Management Committee, protecting villages from floods. Advance weather forecasts link up to real-time river levels. “Once the water levels start rising, we send out updates to villagers living in the catchment areas” she told us.
Voice and text messages, and local weatherboards alert people to the danger. And we’ve worked with the community to put plans in place, so they can act fast to protect their lives, homes and the assets they rely on to make a living. These systems have already saved hundreds of lives.
Sihle is combatting drought with sunshine
In Zimbabwe, we worked with Sihle and her community to tackle prolonged droughts. They’re harnessing the power of the sun to pump up groundwater to irrigate their crops.
Innovative farming techniques, such as crop diversification, mean the community have more food to eat and enough leftover to sell.
Sihle told us “I learned new farming skills and how to use solar-powered irrigation. I’m now able to grow my produce and sell it for an income. I’ll also be able to send my children to school.”
Climate change won’t wait
We’ve arrived at a fork in the road and we need to join together to act, now.
Bikram Rana, who leads our flood resilience programme in Nepal, explains: “I have seen damaged infrastructure, strained water resources, food insecurity and biodiversity loss. If we don’t act, the situation will be disastrous.”
We have a choice. We can choose an approach that creates long-lasting positive impacts, enabling people to thrive despite the changing climate.
Bikram says: “Giving local communities a voice in the decisions that affect them, and introducing solutions that protect, restore, and sustainably manage nature, can reduce future climate impacts, support adaptation, and benefit people and planet.”
This is our chance to build a world that works better for everyone.
“Talk of the future is only useful if it leads to action now”

Your donation today changes lives…
…with your support, our teams around the world can work with more people to build better, climate resilient futures.
And creates a ripple effect…
…as we work with local organisations and communities, they pass on their new skills and knowledge to others, building on their success.
Which multiplies your impact…
…because every £1 invested by forward thinking people like you helps us to develop solutions that work, and unlock on average another £2 in grants from foundations and other funders – so we can do even more.
And creates bigger change…
…your gift can help change the systems that drive the problems. When our solutions are picked up by governments or businesses, positive change can happen on a much bigger scale.
For every £1 we receive in donations, just 9 pence is spent on fundraising. The remaining 91% is spent on charitable activities, including 1% on essential governance.
