Act now to
protect lives
You can help communities protect themselves
With your support, vulnerable communities can thrive, despite the changing climate.
Nicanor (1st image) is 85. He’s lived through many devastating floods and landslides in his town in Peru. But in recent years they’ve been getting worse. That’s why he was one of the first to join a community ‘brigade’ organised by Practical Action.
Nicanor and others in the group monitor rainfall. If it reaches levels likely to cause mudslides and flash flooding, they raise the alarm. The community volunteers rush to visit vulnerable people and help get them to designated places of safety.
All this preparation has proven its worth many times in recent years. Disasters were avoided and life could quickly return to normal.
Disasters caused by extreme weather are not normal. Together, we can stop disasters happening by helping people prepare for extreme weather events, withstand them and recover from them speedily.
Your support will help more communities protect themselves against extreme weather and go from merely surviving to thriving, despite the changing climate.
