Practical Action is a charity organisation which aims to reduce poverty through wider use of appropriate technologies in the developing world. With head office in the UK, it works in more than 45 countries through its offices in Bangladesh, Bolivia, India, Kenya, Malawi, Nepal, Peru, Rwanda, Senegal, Sudan and Zimbabwe. Practical Action seeks to hire a ‘Consultant’ to work under the Programme Funding and Communication Unit. The position will be based in the office of Practical Action in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Practical Answers Services aim to provide a resource on small-scale technologies or intermediate technologies and allow people to access the wealth of technical information within Practical Action as well as bringing together the knowledge of others.

Reporting to the Digital Manager, the primary responsibility of the Consultant is to manage our social media channels and help us reach out to more people globally. Apart from these, the Consultant will need to manage enquires that we receive through various channels and manage our e-newsletters. The candidate should have a graduate degree in any discipline with at least three years of experience in social media marketing and Search engine optimization.

Coordinate the responses to the global enquiries received via various means (web site, emails and from head/other country offices)

  • Ensure the quality of information/knowledge and timely responses to the enquiries
  • Follow up with the beneficiary regarding the usefulness of the response
  • Make best use of Knowledge Point (QnA service which we are a part of) to get answers to enquires from experts.
  • Act as a moderator of Knowledge Point website and promote its use across the group.
  • Create and post engaging contents on our social media channels regularly to engage with relevant audiences
  • Analyse trends in social media and make appropriate changes to the posts to drive more engagement
  • Coordinate with UK Digital team for better planning and management of social media profiles and posts
  • Coordinate with Appropriate technology magazine and send them the contents they require for their quarterly magazine.
  • Collect contents, create and send out Practical Answers e-newsletter every two months.
  • Help to increase the visibility of our documents and pages on major search engines through the use of SEO techniques.
  • Constant communication and coordination with UK Practical Answers team members and liaison with members of the team across the globe
  • Undertake any other tasks as directed by the Digital Manager

The contract will initially be offered for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extension based on the organisation requirement of work and performance. This position will be based at the Practical Action South Asia Regional Office in Kathmandu.
