Tackling the world’s

BIGGEST THREAT

As a direct result of the climate crisis, millions of the world’s most vulnerable people are sinking deeper into poverty.

People who were hovering on the brink of poverty are being pushed into it.

Many who had escaped it are being overwhelmed by it all over again.

The challenge

Most people recognise the climate crisis as an environmental issue threatening our future.

At Practical Action we also see it as a people issue destroying lives now. Not just through disasters caused by extreme weather events. But by fundamental shifts in people’s ability to survive.

We see it every day in our work in Africa, Asia and Latin America, especially among people who rely on the success of their crops for their survival. Rains that used to come no longer do. Crops that used to flourish now fail. Hunger and hardship follow very quickly.

The opportunity

At Practical Action we believe that human ingenuity is a powerful force – capable of overcoming the world’s toughest problems.

Through our work with people in some of the toughest places on earth, we’ve proven that it is possible to adapt and thrive in the new climate reality.

We’ve re-greened deserts. Saved forests. Beaten droughts and floods. And helped people live in harmony rather than in competition for natural resources.

Ingenuity can help overcome the worst effects of climate change.

Find out how we help people around the world to respond to the biggest threat of our time.
