Be part of our plan for a better future, now.
We’re working with people like Melanio, living on the front line of climate change, to pioneer innovative solutions to their biggest problems.
But climate change won’t wait. We’re at a fork in the road and unless we change the status quo, more communities in Peru, and around the world, will see their land destroyed by drought or floods, their crops fail and their environment destroyed.
We need your support so we can work with more climate pioneers to prepare for more extreme weather, adapt to the changing climate reality, and reuse and replenish the earth’s finite resources.
Your gift today will enable more people like Melanio build better, climate resilient futures, and pioneer solutions that benefit millions more.
“Before, the people were cutting down trees without thinking about the future. With the reforestation for coffee, today we can see some very beautiful landscapes. We feel proud.”
Melanio, a farmer in Santa Fe, Peru
Karuna is saving lives with early warning systems
In Nepal, Karuna leads a local Disaster Management Committee, protecting villages from floods. Advance weather forecasts link up to real-time river levels. “Once the water levels start rising, we send out updates to villagers living in the catchment areas” she told us.
Voice and text messages, and local weatherboards alert people to the danger. And we’ve worked with the community to put plans in place, so they can act fast to protect their lives, homes and the assets they rely on to make a living. These systems have already saved hundreds of lives.
Suliman is harvesting food from the desert
In Sudan, we worked with Suliman and his community to tackle prolonged droughts.
They’re planting forests to stabilise the soil and hold back the desert. When it does rain, it pours, but rainwater harvesting captures the water. Coupled with new farming techniques, and crop diversification, yields are increasing.
Suliman told us “Climate change has brought many challenges for us. But the new farming skills I’ve learned make me more confident”.
Shakana is growing food on wasteland
In Bangladesh, we’ve supported Shakana to grow nutritious pumpkins on land damaged by climate-related flooding.
Thanks to Shakana’s new skills and innovative approach, land that was considered too damaged to be useful is now home to bountiful harvests that are boosting the health of Shakana’s family and community.
Shakana told us: “I’ve learned to grow pumpkins on the sandbars left behind when the flood waters recede. I remove the seeds from the pumpkins and dry them. I replant some and give some to my children as a healthy snack.”
Your donation today changes lives…
……with your support, our teams around the world can work with more people to build better, climate resilient futures.
And creates a ripple effect…
…as we work with local organisations and communities, they pass on their new skills and knowledge to others, building on their success.
Which multiplies your impact…
…because every £1 invested by forward thinking people like you helps us to develop solutions that work, and unlock on average another £2 in grants from foundations and other funders – so we can do even more.
And creates bigger change…
…your gift can help change the systems that drive the problems. When our solutions are picked up by governments or businesses, positive change can happen on a much bigger scale.
For every £1 we receive in donations, just 9 pence is spent on fundraising. The remaining 91% is spent on charitable activities, including 1% on essential governance.
