Practical Action is looking for a Trustee with financial skills and experience to join its Board.
All trustees take responsibility for the full range of Practical Action’s work. We look for trustees who can bring to the table particular relevant experience. The board regularly reviews the mix of the board’s skills and experience and has identified the need to recruit an additional trustee with a financial background who would join the board’s Finance Audit and Risk Committee and who may in due course be a candidate to succeed the current Treasurer. We would also expect the successful candidate to become a trustee of Practical Action’s Employee Benefit Scheme, a defined benefit scheme that was closed to new members in 2002. The Scheme currently enjoys a small actuarial surplus.
The commitment will be a minimum of 8 meetings a year, with additional days for reviewing papers, participating on committees and in events. The total commitment would be a maximum of 15 days a year.
The organisation is looking for a Trustee with a background and expertise in finance. This Trustee, will be part of a cohort of 12 Board Members, including the Chair and Vice Chair. The appointed person will join the board’s Finance Audit and Risk Committee, the Employee Benefit Scheme Committee, and in due course, could be a candidate to succeed the current Treasurer.
The ideal person would have an understanding of and empathy with the work of Practical Action, the ability and confidence to provide oversight, strategic judgement, good communication and a clear voice on the Board; able to work in a collaborative way. We are seeking someone who has experience of senior level finance and risk management, strategic operations and an accountancy qualification.
