We are looking for an experienced consultant/technical specialist to be a central member of our PAC-International (Practical Action Consulting, International) Core Energy Consulting Team. You will work closely with the Head of Core Energy Consulting to lead, co-ordinate, support and deliver a wide-ranging portfolio of energy projects in line with Practical Action’s strategic energy objectives (‘change ambitions’). You will work closely with PAC Energy sub-teams/portfolio teams and wider PA colleagues - helping to drive, lead and co-ordinate business development and delivery in close partnership with others.
PAC is ambitious to foster growing energy access provision; and to influence energy access planning and policy development for the benefit of poor, vulnerable and marginalised populations.
To deliver this we need experienced consultants who are passionate about winning, managing and delivering high quality and high impact work in the energy and development sectors.
As well as working closely with PAC/consultancy colleagues, you will also engage closely with other Practical Action (PA)/charity energy colleagues to provide and co-ordinate energy-related Technical Assistance to PA’s charity programmes and fundraising efforts.
This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of PAC/PA energy access work, something we are renowned for and an area of work we have great ambitions for as part of our Strategic Intent as an organisation.
You are an experienced Energy Access and Development Consultant/Expert who is consistently able to win and deliver high quality and high impact projects in collaboration with others. You are a dynamic individual, who is able to work flexibly according to shifting opportunities and directions. You readily take initiative and ownership of projects/tasks and work in the most effective manner given any resource/time constraints. You are able to support others to develop skills and acquire experience in a team situation.
You have a sound knowledge of the international energy sector/related areas and have significant experience of working in this field: either in terms of technical advisory, programme management or consultancy roles (or a combination of these). You will have experience of financial/budget management and of fundraising/business development.
Whilst you may specialise in one or more areas, you are open to developing and working in new areas of energy access/expertise.

We are an international development organisation putting ingenious ideas to work so people in poverty can change their world.

We work with communities to develop ingenious, lasting and locally owned solutions for agriculture, water and waste management, climate resilience and clean energy. And we share what works with others, so answers that start small can grow big.
We’re a global change-making group. The group consists of a UK registered charity with community projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America, an independent development publishing company and a technical consulting service. We combine these specialisms to multiply our impact and help shape a world that works better for everyone.
