UK Desktop Support Officer

Practical Action have an exciting and varied role within the IT Team for a Desktop Support Officer (known internally as UK Systems Support Officer) to provide an IT support and helpdesk service (by phone, in person or electronically) to all staff in the UK office.

You will have close working relationships with colleagues within the IT team at all levels, but you will also work on your own initiative. You will provide end user support, setup and configure laptops, PCs and tablets, support the roll-out of new applications, assist in the testing and evaluating of IT technology, provide the maintenance and repair of IT hardware as required and also monitor and maintain the computer systems and network.

We are looking for someone who possesses broad general knowledge and experience of Information Technology systems including Windows 7 and 10, MS Office 2010 upwards, various hardware devices and networking in a Microsoft Active Directory environment.

With knowledge of Office 365 email, SharePoint and web browsers, computing devices such as laptops, desktops and tablets including peripherals such as printers, smart card readers, webcams etc. you will have experience of working with networked computing systems or understanding of Networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi), Internet Technologies and Anti-Virus and Firewall software products. A working knowledge of collaboration technologies such as Skype, Skype for Business and video conferencing is also essential.

Having ideally completed an IT apprenticeship to level 4 and have Microsoft certification in a relevant desktop operating system, CompTIA or similar and have recent IT department experience, you will need a good level of personal organisation and teamwork in order to deliver effective support to staff. The candidate will need to be able to demonstrate a customer-focused, motivated and proactive approach, and will be able to understand complex information and procedures and have general administrative skills to undertake the role.

The role is full-time, permanent and will be based from our Rugby office.
