Areas of focus
Practical Action Nepal
Poverty in Nepal is much more prevalent, intense and severe in rural areas where poverty incidence is 44% almost double that of urban areas with 23%. The incidence of poverty in the mid and far western development regions and in the mountain districts greatly exceeds the national average.
Practical Action Nepal’s development interventions focus on two clusters of districts, which cover 17 districts of the country. The cluster I covers 10 districts: Achham, Banke, Bardiya, Dailekh, Dolpa, Doti, Jumla, Kailali, Kalikot, and Surkhet, whereas cluster II covers 7 districts: Chitwan, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalparasi, Rasuwa, Rupandehi, and Tanahu. These 17 districts represent four development regions, three ecological zones. Among these 17 districts, 6 districts fall under terai; 4 districts fall under mountain and remaining 7 districts fall under hill. Each clusters of district covers three ecological zones namely mountain, hill and terai. In terai districts annual average temperature ranges from 5°c to 47°c, which is 0°c to 30°c in hill and in mountain districts it is below 0°c to 16°c.
Our country head office is in Kathmandu. We have regional offices in Chitwan and Nepalgunj, Banke, and field offices in Doti.
