In June 2023, we started an important project in Peru to handle climate risks and improve farming in Cajamarca, Lambayeque, and La Libertad. Backed by BHA/USAID, this two-year project focuses on making communities and local governments stronger in facing natural hazards.
Our mission and partners
Our main aim is to make local and national governments better at dealing with disaster risks. This includes making plans for disasters, training people to respond, introducing important technologies, and protecting the livelihoods of families at risk.
We’re working together with people and groups at all levels, including the National Disaster Risk Management System, regional governments, and specific groups like the National Institute of Civil Defense and the National Center for Estimation, Prevention and Reduction of Disaster Risk.

Focus areas
1. Policy and practice
Aim: Make local communities and governments better at handling and recovering from disasters.
Where: In the regions of Cajamarca, Lambayeque, and La Libertad.
2. Farming
Aim: Help small farmers deal with weather problems like floods, droughts, and cold snaps.
How: Improve their skills and methods for farming that can stand up to climate changes.
3. Free technology
Aim: Lessen the damage from climate dangers by providing free technology and training for early warning systems.
How: Get communities involved in early warnings and work with different groups to keep these efforts going.

Our project fits with the national plans for handling disaster risks up to 2050 and aims to build stronger communities and sustainable growth in these areas at risk. By working closely with local communities and governments, we’re committed to making a real difference in how Peru handles climate risks and improves its farming for the better.
