Manufacturing
The Manufacturing Programme focuses on two groups of artisans - blacksmiths and small scale welders. A special feature of the project is promoting cooperation and collective effort among light engineering entrepreneurs in their highly competitive market for the benefit of the sub sector as well as their individual enterprises. The key aim is to improve understanding of the sub sector needs among the policy makers. The Manufacturing Programme is carrying out investigatory work in 2 new production sectors, namely, small scale coir and rubber production.
Education
The Sri Lanka Appropriate Technology Education Project (SLATE) disseminates information on appropriate technology among students and stakeholders within the education system with a view towards making 'young people aware of appropriate technologies' enabling them to become agents of effective action and sustainable development initiatives.
