Research

... some ways to start the conversation with us

"New technologies are developed only when people of power and wealth back their development."
Schumacher (1979:44)

Research can all too often be dismissed as "long term" or "irrelevant" or "theoretical" - or even all of these.   Yet research is also a driving force for developing new technologies.   The range and scope of new technologies that will be brought to market in the future depends on funding and ideas.   Whilst funding is essential, most scientists would say that the reason they get out of bed in a morning is because of the challenge of the ideas.

How can we use the undoubted abilities, skills and knowledge of scientists to bring new technologies into effective and appropriate use in developing countries?  It is our belief that we need to form collaborations and networks with scientists so that we can work together to deliver to the needs of people in the developing world the fruits of science and technology that are appropriate for them.
