Enhancing renewable energy options

The current priority of the project is to continue to advocate the use of biogas, micro hydro and wind energy as renewable energy options in national policies and practices of Sri Lanka and other parts of South Asia. The project interventions are currently focusing on investigating on including liquid bio fuels for energy and transport applications, Pico hydro systems and dendro power associated with energy plants in Sri Lanka and India. The project is also promoting the use of gasifier stove among communities.

Significant outcomes

The National Biogas Standard for Domestic Biogas Units was launched in September 2006, forming an important foundation and regulatory tool for ensuring quality construction of biogas units in Sri Lanka.
