Programme Areas
Practical Action Nepal is committed to poverty alleviation by providing appropriate technology in a sustainable way by bringing sound technical knowledge and global experience to the field of appropriate technology development. Currently, Practical Action Nepal works in four programme areas:
- Reducing vulnerability
Strengthen the ability of poor people to use technology to cope with threats from natural disasters, environmental degradation and civil conflict. Our current project work is in two areas: food security and disaster risk reduction and climate change.
- Making markets work for the poor
Enable poor people to use technologies to build secure livelihoods, through improved systems of production, processing and marketing. Our current work is focused on minimising the impact of conflict.
- Access to infrastructure services
Improve the access of poor women and men to locally managed infrastructure services, including energy and transport. This project work is in three main areas: rural transport and energy, sustainable urban environment, and healthy homes.
- Responding to new technologies
Enable poor women and men to assess and respond to the challenges of new technologies such as ICTs, biotechnology and nanotechnology, and to develop and adopt applications that contribute to poverty reduction.
