Early Day Motion in the UK Parliament
Email your MP about the killer in the kitchen
Smoke from domestic fires continues to claim a life every 20 seconds in the developing world. Despite growing recognition of the problem, the international community is still failing to act.
The United Nation's Commission on Sustainable Development is an annual meeting of world governments. At its meeting later this year, indoor air pollution will at long last be discussed, offering a unique opportunity to bring about concerted international action to end the 'killer in the kitchen'.
Susan Kramer MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for International Development, has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in the House of Commons in support of Practical Action's work and calling for action from the British government on indoor air pollution and energy access for the poor at the UN. For the text of the EDM and to see if your MP has already signed it please click here.
An Early Day Motion (EDM) is a petition which MPs can sign to show their support for a particular issue and pressure the Government to act. To find out more about EDMs, please click here. Note that Government Ministers, Whips, Parliamentary Private Secretaries and some shadow Ministers cannot sign EDMs.
