'Making Cities Resilient' Campaign
''Making Cities Resilient' is part of the World Disaster Reduction Campaign 2010-2011. It is intended that the campaign will address issues of local governance and urban risk, building on previous campaigns by the UN group International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) for safer schools and hospitals as well as sustainable urbanisation principles. Strategic Plan 2007-12
Practical Action's strategic plan for 2007-12, People and Technology: Transforming Lives, sets out our objectives for the coming years: making positive changes through the use of new knowledge and technologies, and by improving and building on traditional ones.
SABAL was officially launched in January 2008 with co-funding support from European Union under its Assistance to vulnerable groups and communities most affected by the internal conflict (VCP). A Project Management Unit (PMU) was set up in Doti after the launching of the project. The PMU will supervise three districts - Kailali, Doti and Achham during the implementation of SABAL project till June 2010.
Scaling-up of Indoor Smoke Alleviating Technologies project was launched in March 2008. The project focuses on promoting locally available appropriate technological solutions for smoke reduction, fuel switching options and sustainable approach to healthy living.
Banke Bardia Flood Warning Programme was launched during 2007-8 with support from DIPECHO. BBFWP is being implemented in Banke and Bardia districts with learning from our experiences in Chitwan and Nawalparasi.
Global Leadership Award
The Partnership for Clean Indoor Air (PCIA) has awarded Practical Action Nepal the Global Leadership Award for its vision, initiative and action to achieve the mission of partnership in improving people's health, livelihood and quality of life by reducing Indoor Air Pollution. The award was presented to Jun Hada of Practical Action Nepal when she was participating in the international PCIA Forum workshop in Bangalore, India
World Environment Day celebrated at Pokhara
The glaciers and snowline in the Himalayan system are rapidly melting and retreating. People have already experienced a wide range of difficulties resulted from impacts of global warming. Practical Action Nepal, in conjunction with the Government of Nepal and Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) organized a one-day Seminar in Pokhara on 2 June 2007 to mark the World Environment Day
South Asia Regional Workshop on Indoor Air Pollution, Health and Household Energy 27-28 February 2006, Kathmandu
Practical Action Nepal organised this workshop to share and discuss existing policy provisions and best practices.
Health camp at Hiklung
A one-day health camp was conducted on 3rd December 2004 at Hiklung village, the location most suitable/accessible for villagers to come from four different villages of the Rural Energy Village Project Site.
