MEM-GVEP coordination platform

A national energy action plan for Peru

Practical Action is working with GVEP in Peru, as part of the MEM-GVEP coordination platform, on a national energy action plan for Peru.

GVEP International will be supporting four regional workshops in Peru in 2008 intended to collect input for the national energy strategy in renewable energies and biofuels and to highlight areas for immediate action.

In the first half of 2007, GVEP International was approached by the Peruvian Government (Ministry of Energy and Mines - MEM) which wished to set up a coordination platform for development actors in Peru and outline a national energy strategy taking into account the input of all the stakeholders, both private and public sector as well as civil society and academia. The first meeting of the MEM-GVEP Coordination Platform was held in May 2007.

Under IDB funding, Practical Action completed an assessment of the existing status of renewable energies and biofuels in Peru, under funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This assessment formed the a workshop in September 2007. The Second Workshop of Concerted Planning on Renewable Energy and BioFuels examined the results of our study and outlined the process to complete an energy action plan as well as identifying immediate actions for implementation.
