The promotion of commercial agriculture over local markets, prioritizing technologies such as GMOs over access to water, native seeds and fertilisers, and 'white elephant' aid projects such as large dams have drawn vital resources away from the people who need it most, the small-scale farmers and pastoralists of Sub-Saharan Africa.
