DAY 1 URBAN ENERGY NEEDS - Kibera, Central Kenya
Focus: Urban energy poverty and bio-gas
Visit to an informal settlement in Kibera where less than 20% of its residents have access to electricity.
Purpose: to see the innovative ways in which communities can gain access to a reliable source of energy by using waste as a resource.

DAY 2 RURAL ENERGY NEEDS - Kisumu, Western Kenya
Focus: Stoves and Smoke
Morning: The reality of energy poverty
Collecting firewood with the local women of Kisumu
Visit to the home of a family with a demonstration kitchen:
- Smoke hood
- Fireless cooker – watching fireless cookers being made and used by women in Kisumu
Afternoon: Fuel-efficient cookstoves
First-hand experience of stove production and visit to a household using the stoves.
Purpose: to see both the problem and solution, in the form of simple stoves and smoke hoods.

DAY 3 SUSTAINING SUCCESS - Kerugoya, Central Kenya
Focus: Pico-hydro – harnessing the power of water
Morning
Visit Kathamba and Thima pico hydro schemes and meet with representatives of the community-managed Pico Hydro power scheme.
Afternoon
Visit households where electricity generated from the system is used for lighting/powering TVs/Radio.
Purpose: to see how a locally-built and managed scheme can transform a community.

DAY 4 HIGH IMPACT OUTPUTS – Nairobi, Central Kenya
Press conference at UNEP Headquarters.
