A special edition of the second South Asia Disaster Report was launched at the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen, offering a South Asian perspective on climate change and increased disaster risk.
Global Day of Climate Change Action 24 October 2009
Practical Action joined 350 youths for a beach clean up in Wellawatta, followed by a march to raise awareness on the necessity to reduce CO2 emission in the atmosphere to below 350 parts per million to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.

The Disaster Management Centre and Practical Action have organized a workshop to discuss on "Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction into Development Process". Key objectives of the workshop are to assess the importance of disaster risk sensitivity in development planning process; draw the gaps in policies and practices to incorporate disaster risks; and derive a mechanism to develop guidelines / tools to develop Disaster Impact Assessment systems.

Inter-school tournaments on renewable energy October 2008
Two inter-school tournaments, in drama and debating, on the subject of renewable energy were held by Practical Action with the Royal College Sinhala Oratory and Debating Society, under the patronage of the Ministry of Education.
Lanka Bio Gas Association 28 August 2008, Galle Face Hotel
"Biogas is the most appropriate renewable energy source for an agricultural country like Sri Lanka," said Mr G.K Upawansha president of the Lanka Bio Gas Association welcoming the participants for the inauguration of the Lanka Bio Gas Association on the 28th of August 2008 at Galle Face Hotel. Rural Communities roundtable discussions 24-27 June 2008, Orissa
Practical Action South Asia and the Orissa State Volunteers And Social Workers Association jointly hosted two expert roundtable discussions in Bhubaneswar (Orissa, India) on the 24th and 27th June 2008. The two round table discussions were on the themes of "Rural Communities' Access to Drinking Water" and "Impact of Seeds Policy on Farmers' Rights, Poverty Alleviation and Overall Food Security".

Sales centre for handicrafts April 2008
In 2006, Practical Action and Sarvodaya came in to Wanduruppa, a small village, in Ambalantota, to start work on a project to implement a Livelihood Development Project to improve living conditions. One of the successful programmes implemented by this project was a technical training on Producing Handicraft Items using Water Hyacinth. In April 2008 "Visithuru Kalashilpa Sanvardana Samitiya" moved into their handicraft sales centre, which will hopefully help the handicraft producer group to link up with more market opportunities. Seminar on "Community Participation and Partnership in Local Governance" March 24, 2008
Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils Sri Lanka Institute of Local Governance and Practical Action organized a seminar on citizen participation and local governance on 24th of March 2008 at the Regency hall at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. This seminar facilitated sharing of experiences on practices and approaches demonstrated on community governance by Practical Action other government and non-governmental institutions and of Panchayath system in India. Achieving Sustainability and Equity in Energy: Policy Choices for the Future 30th January, 2008, Sri Lanka
This conference provided a forum for top-level decision-makers, energy sector officials, academics, civil society representatives, private sector, media and representatives of energy consumers to meet present opinions and exchange views on policy choices for the future in achieving sustainability and equity in energy.
