Floods in Sri Lanka
Floods affect communities in the eastern province of Sri Lanka
Practical Action works in Ampara and Batticaloa districts of the eastern province which are currently experiencing severe floods.
We have reports of the numbers affected in the three divisional secretariat divisions in Batticaloa where Practical Action is working at. We are also waiting for reports of affected families from our sites in Ampara district.
According to latest reports from partner organizations in Koralaipattu divisional secretariat division in Kalmadu village, 96 affected families are in three temporary camps.
In the Kalawanchikudi Divisional Secretariat Division in Ondachchimadam 905 families are occupying one temporary camp in a school.
In the Manmunaipattu Divisional Secretariat Division villagers from Kirankulam north and south villages a total of 1017 affected families are occupying two temporary camps. These communities urgently need the following items:
- Food items (rice, biscuits, lunch, dinner)
- Drinking water
- Mats, bed sheets, mosquito nes
- Panadol
- Soap and toothpaste
