Early warning telephone lists, Nawalparasi and Chitwan
The documents, in Nepali, depict early warning communication contact points and channel for floods in the districts. It also provides information on the level of risk with respect to level of flood at the gauging station and hourly updated real telemetry data available in the web of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. These are community based early warning systems linking information at the flood gauge station in the upstream (where they are available) to various agencies responsible for disaster management along the banks to the downstream and district level authorities to disseminate information among to and among vulnerable communities of flood risk in advance.
These also provide assistance during other emergencies such as fire, accident etc to contact ambulances, police and other relevant agencies and persons. The documents also contain telephone numbers of various actors on early information flow, rescue, relief and recovery measures. The documents consist of authentic and precise communication channels to the flow of information between flood measurement station and vulnerable people and within community through identified channels. Some guiding information is also available to aware general readers.
These document have been prepared and published by the District Disaster Rescue Committees in Chitwan and Nawalparasi districts with technical and financial support from Practical Action, Nepal under UKaid funded project to mainstreaming livelihood centred approaches on disaster risk reduction.
