We have received two responses from Gordon Brown to the letters sent by our supporters at Glastonbury and WOMAD. On the subject of water and sanitation he has reassured us that he will play a leading role in negotiations at the UN's Millennium Summit in New York, to ensure that developed countries stand by their commitments.

However on funding adaptation to climate change there is not such good news. Whilst the government is committed to helping the world's poorest to some extent, it is by no means enough. Practical Action's climate change policy advisor comments:

"What Practical Action wants to see from our Government is a commitment to making available considerable amounts of money additional to Official Development Assistance, to help the most vulnerable communities in developing countries adapt to climate change. Meanwhile it must also ensure that the money currently allocated for adaptation actually reaches these communities and assists them in coping with the challenges climate change is already bringing them."

Please take the time to send an email to the Secretary of State for International Development to emphasise how important it is that this additional funding is allocated.
