UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP18 Dates TBC (Usually last week in November), Doha, Qatar Continuing negotiations towards a global climate treaty
Earth Summit (Rio +20), 20th-22nd June, Rio de Janeiro Brazil. The objective of the Conference is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development. The Conference will focus on two themes: a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and the institutional framework for sustainable development.
UNFCCC intercessional talks 14 - 25 May, Bonn, Germany To begin negotiations on the global climate treaty following the meeting in Durban in December
Sixth Conference on Community Based Adaptation 16th – 22nd April, Hanoi, Vietnam. The conference aims to bring together stakeholders and practitioners to share and discuss knowledge of community-based adaptation (CBA) planning and practices from different parts of the developing world, particularly from Vietnam, and to share the latest learning and good practices in CBA from developing countries
Southern Speaker Tour, 23rd - 31st January, London (UK), Brussels (Belgium), Bonn (Germany). Practical Action's East Africa Director Grace Mukasa is joining Rachel Berger, our climate change policy advisor, on visits to decision makers in London, Brussels and Bonn. This tour is taking place in partnership with GermanWatch and Climate Action Network - Europe as part of our EC funded project to raise awareness in Europe of the link between poverty and climate change.
2011
UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP17 28 November - 9 December 2010, Durban, South Africa
The Durban conference will bring together representatives of the world's governments, international organizations and civil society to discuss a successor to the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012. Last year’s meeting in Cancun once again failed to reach agreement. There were successes when the historically large-emitting nations put a figure of the amount of funds needed for developing countries, but their failure to agree legally binding emission reduction target delays the essential peak and decline of the greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.
2010
UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP16 29 November - 10 December 2010, Cancun, Mexico
World leaders did not agree on a successor to the Kyoto Protocol, whose first commitment period expires in 2012. There were successes when the historically large-emitting nations put a figure of the amount of funds needed for developing countries, but their failure to agree legally binding emission reduction target delays the essential peak and decline of the greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere. All eyes are now on COP16 in Cancun, Mexico.
Community-Based Adaptation Workshop 12 July 2010, London
An opportunity for practitioners new to community-based adaptation to build their capacity, and for those with experience to share findings and discuss emerging issues in this vital area of work.

Fourth International Conference on Community Based Adaptation (CBA) to Climate Change 21-27 February 2010, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
The conference aims to share the latest developments in adaptation planning and practices, priority sectors and measures at different levels and disseminate knowledge among stakeholders and actors. UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP15 7-18 December 2009, Copenhagen, Denmark
This meeting offered a final opportunity for world leaders to forge an agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol. Practical Action's team was there to ensure they knew exactly what needs to be included. We also reported back on the all the events from the negotiations, via video, blogs and Twitter.
The Wave - Stop Climate Chaos march 5 December 2009, London
Throughout 2009, the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition has been pressing for UK Government action to end dirty coal and deliver renewable energy and give support to poor countries to adapt to changing weather patterns. This built towards a major event in central London on 5th December to demand a deal at the UN talks in Copenhagen that will radically cut global emissions.
Climate Change Training Course 5 October or 4 December 2009, London
"Climate Change and the Implications for People and Poverty" is an interactive training course presenting an opportunity to examine and debate why climate change is a key issue for international development. It is aimed at anyone interested in climate change, its impacts and the ways in which people are already adapting their lifestyles in the less developed world.

Even before the banking collapse, the world suffered poverty, inequality and the threat of climate chaos. The world has followed a financial model that has created an economy fuelled by ever-increasing debt, both financial and environmental.�Ahead�of April's G20 meeting in London�world leaders�met to discuss the economic situation and make plans to improve the situation.

Climate Change Day of Action Thursday,�19 March 2009, Coventry, 12 noon
At Coventry Cathedral�NASA�scientist James Hansen�talked about the real impact of a changing climate�on people who are living through its effects.� This was followed�by a march around Coventry by� members of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition.
Climate change hits the silver screen in The Age of Stupid Premiere, Sunday 15 March 2009
Ever wondered how future generations will judge the way we're dealing with climate change?�This film, set in 2055, had its�world premiere in London and at venues�throughout the UK on Sunday 15 March.�It went on general release on 20 March.�

UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP14 1-12 December 2008, Poznań, Poland
Practical Action attended the fourteenth conference of parties (COP 14) in Poznań. The Poznan Climate Change Conference needs to move from discussion to negotiation mode in order to complete a new international agreement in Copenhagen 2009.
�National Climate March, Saturday, 6 December 2008, Grosvenor Square, London
As part of a Global Day of Climate Protest, people around the world demanded action to prevent the catastrophe of climate change, which is affecting poor people in developing countries first and worst.
Shared Planet Conference, 21-23 November 2008, University of Birmingham
At the annual conference of student campaigning organisation, People & Planet, more than 50 people attended Practical Action's�workshop focusing on�the energy needs of the world's poorest people.�Gregory Akall from Kenya�and Teo Sanchez from�our UK office talked about�lifting people out of poverty using small scale renewables.�There was a�video screening of Practical Action's micro-hydro work in action followed by discussion of the issue of energy access and Practical Action technologies.
Training course: Climate Change and the Implications for People and Poverty 26 November, 2 December 2008
This interactive training course, run by Practical Action Consulting, offers participants the opportunity to examine and debate why climate change is a key issue for international development. It is for anyone who wants to feel enthused, confident and competent in the area of climate change, including campaigners, fundraisers, policy-makers, donors, programme officers and local authorities.

Festivals Summer 2008
Festival goers have been treated to a taste of Practical Action this summer as staff hit the road. Glastonbury goers, WOMAD revellers and Leamington Peace Festival visitors all heard about Practical Action as they enjoyed their summer.
Climate Change Bill public meeting 22 April 2008, London
Tuesday 22nd April saw Practical Action supporters heading towards London to attend the public meeting, organised by Friends of the Earth, on the Climate Change Bill. UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP13 3-14 December 2007
Last year's UNFCCC Conference of Parties took place in December and Practical Action organised a series of events and actions in the run up to the talks in London, Sheffield, Birmingham and the House of Lords.
WOMAD 27-29 July 2007, Charlton Park, Wiltshire
Practical Action was at the World of Music, Arts and Dance festival to continue the campaign. The festival was a great platform to generate more support as well as meeting others involved in similar campaigns.
Live Earth 7 July 2007
Live Earth was a 24-hour, 7-continent concert series that brought together more than 100 music artists and 2 billion people to trigger a global movement to solve the climate crisis. Sharon Looremeta, who works for Practical Action amongst Maasai communities, took the stage at the UK concert to tell the world about the reality of climate change.
Glastonbury 22-24 June 2007, Somerset
Practical Action shared a stall with the Henry Doubleday Research Association (HDRA) at the world's biggest outdoor music festival this year. With the help of a bit of imagination and creativity we enticed revellers away from the party for a minute or two to encourage them to get involved in our campaign. G8 Conference 6-8 June 2007, Berlin

World Can't Wait demonstration 2 June 2007
Two years ago, world leaders were given a huge global mandate to make poverty history. They made big promises but have failed to follow these up. International Climate Conference 12-13 May 2007, LSE, London
Organised by the Campaign against Climate Change with the London School of Economics and Political Science the conference was the biggest climate change talk-in, learn-in and plan-for-action of the year. Sharon Looremeta, Practical Action Maasai project manager, was there on Sunday speaking about her experience of the impact of climate change in Kenya.
Practical Action Supporters Day 12 May 2007, SOAS, London
The annual supporters day held in London was a great success and the campaigns team were there drumming up more support for the Stop Climate Injustice Campaign.
Ragley Green Fair 5-7 May 2007, Ragley Hall, UK
The Stop Climate Injustice Campaign had a stall on the Saturday of this local fair set in Ragley Hall's historic park. The Fair aims to promote environmental awareness by staging an exhibition that will showcase practical ideas and technologies for a more sustainable future. Supporter Training Workshop 29 March 2007, London
The campaigns team and nine dedicated supporters met at the Friends Meeting House in London for an evening of workshops about the campaign and an introduction session to lobbying MPs. It was a great opportunity for the team to meet their supporters and the evening was enjoyed by all. Watch this space for announcements about similar events in the future.
Community Based Adaptation to Climate Change workshop 24-28 February 2007, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Two years after the first workshop, the second international workshop on Community Based Adaptation (CBA) to climate change consisted of two days of field visits to community based adaptation initiatives, followed by three days of interactive discussions on various adaptation issues in Dhaka.

UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP12 Nairobi, 6-17 November 2006
The United Nations held talks on climate change in Nairobi, covering the recent Stern Report and post-Kyoto agreements. Practical Action climate change experts were there, and hosting a side event on adaptation to climate change.
Stop Climate Chaos rally 4 November 2006, London
As the United Nations negotiations on climate change began in Kenya, Practical Action staff and supporters gathered in Trafalgar Square as part of the biggest ever UK event to Stop Climate Chaos.
Campaign Against Climate Change 3 June 2006, London
Practical Action's climate change campaigner Angelique Orr jointly ran a workshop on the impact of global warming the world's poorest people at a the Climate Conference taking place at the London School of Economics.
Lobbying the UK Parliament 1 March 2006, London
Practical Action staff and supporters were among those lobbying British MPs for action to reduce CO2 emissions. In this "carbon dating" event, 700 members of the public informed British MPs, Lords and other parliamentarians of their concerns about climate change, with the MPs rotating around different groups - similar to participants at a speed dating event.

Global Warming 8 (GW8) 5 July 2005, Edinburgh
To coincide with the G8 Summit in Scotland in July 2005, eight speakers from poor countries described the impacts of climate change on the lives of people in their country, and the barriers to further progress and opportunities for tackling climate change and reducing its impact on poor people.
