A flick of a light switch or turning on the kettle for a morning cuppa is something we pretty much take for granted here in the UK. Yet worldwide, billions of people don’t have the energy they need to light their homes, cook meals safely and earn a living.
Despite the availability of technical solutions, 1.3 billion people are still without any access to electricity and 2.7 billion people cook over open fires. @PracticalAction, we believe that this is a global technology injustice.
At the #RioPlus 20 Summit this week we continue to push for a global effort #energy4all to eliminate energy poverty and support the UN goal of universal energy access by 2030.
If this lights you up – then why not raise your student’s awareness of this global challenge next week for D&T week 2012?
Practical Action has lots of support material including starter activities that enable students to think about their energy use and consumption, full global design challenges and more specific renewable energy activities.
