Practical Action is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) that uses technology to challenge poverty in developing countries.
We find out what people are doing and help them to do it better. Through technology we enable poor communities to build on their skills and knowledge to produce sustainable and practical solutions- transforming their lives forever and protecting the world around them.
Practical Action's projects are organised under four programme themes:
Two cross-cutting themes are also present across our work:
Where we work
The four programmes operate across our country and regional offices:
In addition to these seven offices, Practical Action also has a Head Office in the UK, with responsibility for coordinating group finances, management, knowledge sharing, fundraising and marketing.
Practical Action's senior management team, which has executive responsibilities, is called the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) and it comprises the Chief Executive and twelve Directors, including six Country and Regional Directors.
Board of Trustees
Practical Action is governed by a Board of Trustees, who are also Directors of the Company, and responsible for the overall management and control of the Charity.
The charity has two wholly-owned trading subsidiaries - Practical Action Publishing Ltd and Practical Action Consulting Ltd - and three dormant subsidiaries. It is also associated with two locally-registered overseas entities carrying the Practical Action name.
We commit to working in an open and transparent way.
Practical Action now publishes data via the International Aid Transparency initiative (IATI), where information on aid and activity spending is publicly accessible.
We also publish project evaluations, assessments and reviews, and management responses.
